New Orleans gymnasts head to regional competition in Texas _lowres

Seven boys representing Empire Gymnastics Academy of New Orleans qualified to compete in the USA Gymnastics men’s regional meet in Galveston, Texas, on April 8-10. They qualified for regional competition through their performance in the men’s state gymnastics meet held March 12 in Baton Rouge.

The gymnasts headed to regionals in Galveston are Braden McAvoy, Ryder Naquin, John Gunaldo, Talon Comeaux, Ross Mayer, Zachary Tujague and Tommy Grillot.

In state competition, Grillot, level 10, placed first in pommel horse and parallel bars. Gunaldo, level 7, was the all-around state champion, placing first in floor, rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar. McAvoy, level 7, placed first in pommel horse and rings. Naquin, level 7, placed first in pommel horse.

Kaleb Trombley, level 5, placed first in floor, and Conor Hardie, level 5, placed first in vault in state competition. Empire’s level 5 gymnasts placed third in team.

Three of Empire’s level 4 gymnasts earned the title of all-around state champ: Jalen LeBoeuf, Sage Maklansky and Isac Tamborello. LeBoeuf and Maklanski also placed first in parallel bars, as did Dominic Carollo, level 4. Tamborello also placed first in floor, rings and vault. Empire’s level 4 gymnasts placed fourth in team.
