Machete attack follows refusal of demand

A man was stabbed with a machete Tuesday when he refused to hand over his pocket change.

The incident happened about 7 p.m. near Marais and Gallier streets.

An unknown man walked up to the 59-year-old victim and asked for change. When the victim refused, the man pulled out a machete and began to stab him.

The victim was treated at a hospital. His condition was not available.

Police seek person of interest in homicide

Homicide detectives are trying to find a man who might have information about a recent killing in Algiers.

Wellington Cornin, 24, is a person of interest in the death of 26-year-old Shandon Barnes.

Barnes was killed inside a Chevrolet Trailblazer about 4 p.m. Sept. 12 in the 1400 block of Flanders Street.

Argument between men ends with one stabbed

An argument between two men at Covenant House on Tuesday morning ended with one stabbing the other, New Orleans police said.

The 18-year-old victim and the other man were arguing about 11:20 a.m. at the facility in the 800 block of North Rampart Street when the stabbing happened.

The victim was treated at a hospital.

Man carjacked while cleaning Toyota SUV

A man cleaning his car underneath an overpass in Gentilly was robbed of it Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the 68-year-old victim was near Allen and Humanity streets when a man armed with a gun walked up about 12:20 p.m.

The man asked the victim for his cellphone and the keys to his 2008 Toyota Highlander. The victim handed them over, and the robber drove away.

Man burglarizes home, flees with electronics

A man burglarized a New Orleans East home at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon.

The unknown man got into the home in the 12100 block of the North Interstate 10 Service Road about 2 p.m.

Once inside, he pointed a pistol at the 24-year-old victim and told him to not move.

The man fled from the home with several electronic devices.

Man, woman robbed at gunpoint in Uptown

A man and woman sitting on the porch of an Uptown home were robbed at gunpoint early Wednesday.

The victims, both 24, were in front of the home in the 2400 block of Napoleon Avenue when an armed man walked up about 3:35 a.m.

The robber demanded their belongings and then ran away when they handed them over.

Houma man gets 10 years in N.O. arrest

A Houma man, arrested last year for having cocaine in New Orleans, was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison.

Channing Christopher Miller, 36, previously pleaded guilty to possession with the intent to distribute cocaine hydrochloride.

According to court documents, on Nov. 14, 2013, officers were doing surveillance of the Megabus terminal at Bienville and North Peters streets for a drug operation.

Officers saw Miller get off the bus and pick up a black duffel bag from the luggage area.

Officers approached him, smelled marijuana and asked if he had any drugs on him, according to court documents.

He said he did not and allowed them to search his bag.

At that point, the officers found 3½ bricks of powder cocaine and a bag of marijuana.

Two men shot Tuesday on Marrero street

Two men were shot Tuesday night in Marrero.

Jefferson Parish deputies were called to the 1100 block of Ames Boulevard about 9 p.m. and found a 20-year-old man shot in the back and another 20-year-old man shot in the legs, said Col. John Fortunato, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Both men were treated at Interim LSU Hospital in New Orleans. The man shot in the back was in critical condition, while the other man’s wounds were not serious.
