Update: Suspect in fatal New Orleans-area shooting arrested near Lafayette _lowres

State police in St. Martin Parish arrested a suspect in a New Orleans-area fatal shooting after finding the man in a Broussard-area hotel, according to a report from WWL-TV.

Abbie Head, 62, is accused of fatally shooting a 28-year-old woman just after 9 p.m. Thursday in front of a residence in the 1500 block of General Collins Avenue in Algiers.

Early Thursday, State Police received information that Head was in the Broussard area and was armed and suicidal, according to WWL. After he was located at a local hotal, Head was arrested without incident. He was booked into St. Martin Parish Jail with second-degree murder, awaiting transport to New Orleans.

New Orleans Police Department spokesman Officer Frank B. Robertson III gave this account of the shooting incident:

The victim arrived at the residence to meet with a family member. Moments afterwards, Head and the victim were involved in a verbal altercation in the driveway. Head produced a shotgun and shot the victim twice. She died on the scene. Head fled the scene in a late model maroon Ford F-150 King Ranch Edition pickup truck.
