A man was shot and two others were taken into custody early Monday morning after two vehicles exchanged gunfire and crashed on Interstate 10 West in Metairie, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
Around 1 a.m., JPSO received a report of two cars -- a Dodge Charger and Jeep Cherokee -- shooting at each other as they approached the Causeway Boulevard exit on I-10 West. The reports to JPSO of gunfire were followed by reports that the vehicles then crashed.
Officers were able to apprehened two men -- Tommie Bridges, 28, and Verkeese Williby, 28. Calls to 911 alerted JPSO that the men were running away from the accident scene. One caller in the 500 block of Melody alerted JPSO that a man (Bridges) was in the caller's backyard, where he was taken into custody. Williby was located in the 1900 block of Metairie Court.
Bridges told JPSO he was a passenger in the Dodge Charger but couldn't remember who the driver was.
A third man -- Kendrick Johnson, 27 -- was taken to Oschner Hospital on Jefferson Highway with a gunshot wound to the leg. Johnson told investigators he was driving a Dodge Charger on I-10 but couldn't rememer what happened or how he was shot, according to JPSO.
