The Jefferson Parish Library presents “Financial Strategies for Successful Retirement,” a free course that occurs on three consecutive Tuesday nights in June at the West Bank Regional Library, 2751 Manhattan Blvd., Harvey.
The classes will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, on June 21 and June 28.
The course will cover the following material:
Planning for a comfortable retirement
Managing tax liability
Reducing exposure to financial risk
Using stocks, mutual funds, bonds and other investment vehicles
Providing for heirs.
The course will be relevant for those who are nearing retirement, already retired or beginning to develop retirement plans. The material will help participants assess their current situations and develop personalized plans to pursue retirement goals.
The instructor is Brian Low, a registered representative with Broker Dealer Financial Services.
SAL’S GENEALOGY SEMINAR: Sal Serio, curator of the American Italian Research Center at the East Bank Regional Library in Metairie, will discuss African-American research with guest speaker Gaynell Brady at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon Drive, Metairie. The session for June 15 focuses on French research with guest speaker Augusta Elmwood.
MARRIAGE AND MONEY: Bennett Blackledge and Kristin House, both of the Gulf Coast Bank and Trust Co., will talk about “Marriage and Money Issues” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the West Bank Regional Library, 2751 Manhattan Blvd., Harvey. This session will explore the many ways money can cause problems in relationships and basic strategies to avoid issues and create a happy partnership.
BIG BAND MUSIC: The Crescent City Big Band makes its Jefferson Parish Library debut at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon Drive, Metairie.
POETRY READING: The Greater New Orleans Chapter of the Louisiana Poetry Society has moved its sessions to the second Saturday of each month at the Old Metairie Branch library, 2751 Metairie Road. The next event will occur at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Sessions consist of poetry readings and discussions for poetry lovers.
SCALE MODELING: The Flying Tigers Scale Model Builders will hold its first meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the Old Metairie Branch Library, 2350 Metairie Road. This group promotes the hobby of scale-model making. It is a chartered chapter of the International Plastic Modelers Society — USA.
TAOIST MEDITATION: Wyming Sun will discuss “Taoist Meditation” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon Drive, Metairie.
Sun says Taoists are “life-ists, and of all spiritual paths, Taoism placed the greatest emphasis on life and the health of the physical body. Taoists developed eight healing disciplines to study the road of fresh verses stale energy through various paths of nature.”
