HEALTH CARE HERO: Glen Golemi, Gulf States Region CEO for United Healthcare, was one of 50 health care professionals receiving an award for industry and community involvement at the 2014 Health Care Heroes Awards luncheon in New Orleans on May 9.

Health Care Heroes presents awards in six categories: animal care, first responder, nurse, physician, professional and volunteer.

Golemi, who was honored in the professional category, has more than 30 years of leadership experience in the health care and health benefits industry. His expertise includes new market development and expansion, product development, sales management, medical cost management, network development, financial management, regulatory compliance, government affairs and leadership during major acquisitions.

Golemi is responsible for health plan operations in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi, and helping to provide access to quality health care to 1.2 million people in the region. Golemi ensures the health plans he oversees in each state are successful at delivering affordable, quality-based health programs to employer-based and individual plan participants through a broad medical provider network and user-friendly consumer services and tools designed to improve the overall health and well-being of the region’s residents.

Additionally, Golemi serves as chairman of the American Heart Association’s Greater Southeast Affiliate board of directors. Through his involvement, he is committed to helping the organization fight heart disease and stroke, the No. 1 and No. 4 leading killers, respectively, of American men and women.
