New Orleans police re-arrested a man Thursday in the case of a woman who died this spring from injuries she received in a 2011 shooting.

Kenneth Fortenberry, 26, was booked on second-degree murder in the April death of 42-year-old Erica Reed.

The shooting happened Dec. 18, 2011, in the 1200 block of Tupelo Street. Reed and a 35-year-old man both were wounded in the shooting.

In 2013, Fortenberry pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated battery and one count of second-degree feticide and was sentenced to 12 months behind bars, authorities said.

On April 5, Reed died from complications from her injuries stemming from the 2011 shooting, Orleans Parish Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Rouse determined. Rouse classified the death as a homicide.

Police said Fortenberry was taken into custody at his home.
