An emergency medical technician at the West Jefferson Emergency Medical Services headquarters in Marrero died after a vehicle under repair dropped on him Wednesday, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
Col. John Fortunato, a JPSO spokesman, said a mechanic and two EMTs were working on an EMS vehicle elevated on a lift at 1225 Avenue C about 5:30 p.m. when the lift failed, pinning the 44-year-old man under the rack. He was taken to West Jefferson Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
A second EMT, a 37-year-old man, suffered minor injuries. The mechanic was not injured.
