The money left over when the Civic Beautification Association of Jefferson, Orleans and St. Bernard Parishes closed its books in 2013 has gone toward a Blue Star memorial marker in front of the Foundation Center at Lafreniere Park in Metairie.
The Civic Beautification Association, which was formed in 1959, brought together all the garden clubs of the three parishes for projects at schools, playgrounds, roadside gardens and public buildings.
Present for the installation of the Blue Star marker were garden club members, American Legion members and members of the armed forces. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office presented the colors as everyone sang “The Star Spangled Banner.” Members of the Rummel High School color guard participated as well. Sophia Cruze, 12, sang “God Bless America” to close the program.
