A North Carolina man who flew in to New Orleans on Wednesday was met at the gate by FBI agents who arrested him on a charge of extortion.
The FBI said that John Michael Fowler, 50, of Charlotte, North Carolina, arrived in the city to have a sexual relationship with a local college student whom he claims he has had an ongoing relationship with since she was 16.
After the woman ended the relationship, Fowler threatened to release apparently compromising photographs of her and also threatened her with sexual assault, the FBI said.
Fowler also said he would harm the woman’s sister and roommate, which is why he traveled to New Orleans, the FBI alleged.
Fowler was booked into the St. Charles Parish prison. He was scheduled to make his first court appearance Thursday afternoon.
