The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office is searching for an inmate who left his job Sunday as part of the Transitional Work Program.
Walter Ross, 53, was reported missing about 3:20 p.m. from a grocery store where he was working, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office did not say where the store is located.
A deputy began to search for Ross about 10 minutes later, and the state Department of Corrections was notified that he was missing by about 4 p.m.
The Transitional Work Program allows inmates who are closed to their release date an opportunity to work at local businesses.
Ross is serving a five-year sentence for simple robbery. He was set to be released Dec. 18, 2015, the Sheriff’s Office said.
He entered the Transitional Work Program Sept. 2 and had no prior violations.
He now faces additional charges of simple escape and will no longer be allowed to work in the program.
Anyone with information on Ross’ whereabouts is asked to call 911 or the Sheriff’s Office at (504) 827-8505.
