Authorities arrested a 38-year-old man Friday accused of robbing a bank in Algiers.
El-Hanini Mohammed was in federal custody after authorities said he walked into the First Bank and Trust on General DeGaulle about 3:20 p.m. with a semi-automatic pistol and a note, demanding large bills.
Mohammed fled the bank with a bag of cash and fired a single gunshot into the ceiling on his way out. Authorities said he jumped into a black Lincoln sedan and drove away.
NOPD officers Michael Guasco and George Olivier of the Fourth District spotted the sedan speeding away from the bank and pulled the vehicle over near La. 406 and Bryson Street.
Police said Mohammed “peacefully complied” with the officers, who spotted a bag of cash on the floorboard of the vehicle.
