The New Orleans Police are searching for the driver of an SUV that they believe killed a bicyclist traveling on Elysian Fields Avenue near Royal Street about 10:25 p.m. Monday.
The vehicle that fled the scene was described as a dark-colored, small or mid-size SUV, according to NOPD spokesman Officer Garry Flot. The vehicle’s front passenger-side bumper, hood and windshield may have been damaged in the collision with the cyclist, who died at the scene.
The bicyclist was traveling lakebound in the far right lane when he was struck by the vehicle, Flot said.
The Fatality Unit is leading the investigation and can be reached at (504) 658-6210.
