The 15th annual Locks of Love Cut-A-Thon will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 3 in the center court of Lakeside Shopping Center in Metairie.
The event will benefit Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that provides high-quality hairpieces to children suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. The prostheses help restore self-esteem and confidence, enabling the children to face the world and their peers.
It is estimated that children comprise more than 80 percent of the donors, making this a charity where children have an opportunity to help children.
During the Cut-A-Thon, all haircuts will be $15. People donating 10 inches of hair or more will receive a free T-shirt; others can buy a T-shirt for $10. The T-shirt design is by Mary Grace Moore, of Covington, a Locks of Love recipient.
People also can donate hair that was cut at another salon.
