Man found shot to death in Lower 9th Ward

A man was found shot to death Saturday evening in the Lower 9th Ward, according to Officer Garry Flot, a spokesman for the New Orleans Police Department.

The incident happened at Egania and North Villere streets. Flot said the call came in about 6:20 p.m., and when officers arrived they found the 26-year-old man lying dead on the street with multiple gunshot wounds.

The man’s uncle Tyrone Dorsey, 52, identified the victim as Brishen Dorsey.

He said he didn’t know why someone would kill his nephew.

“He had been out of town,” Dorsey said, adding that his nephew had just moved back from Shreveport with his girlfriend. “He just came back two days ago. I heard maybe he was robbed.”

Neighbors said they heard between 10 and 12 shots fired.

NOPD investigating rape of 11-year-old girl

An 11-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in New Orleans East on Friday afternoon, police said.

Police said the assault happened in the 7000 block of Yorktown Drive. It was reported about 5:45 p.m.

Police are investigating the incident, which was categorized as an aggravated rape.

Tulane University police report armed robbery

A Tulane University student was robbed at gunpoint while walking off-campus Saturday afternoon, university police reported.

The student was walking in the 800 block of Broadway about 3 p.m. when he was approached by a man who pulled out a handgun and demanded his property, according to the Tulane University Police Department.

Police said the victim relinquished his belongings and the man fled toward St. Charles Avenue.

The suspect is described as a 20-year-old man, about 5-foot-10, 165 pounds and bald. He was wearing a long-sleeved sweater-style shirt and blue jeans.

Home invasion reported Saturday in Filmore

Two victims were burglarized at gunpoint Saturday morning when three men forced their way into a residence in the Filmore neighborhood, New Orleans police said.

A 21-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man were in the house in the 4400 block of Kennon Avenue about 3 a.m. when the three men, two armed with guns, broke in.

One man struck the 20-year-old male victim in the head with a gun several times before the three robbers fled, taking about $60, according to the NOPD.

Police investigating rape Friday in Mid-City

A 33-year-old woman on Friday reported a rape that she said happened several months ago, New Orleans police said.

The woman said she was sexually assaulted by her ex-boyfriend in the 3700 block of Orleans Avenue in Mid-City.

Police said the incident was categorized as an aggravated rape and is under investigation.

NOPD seeks identity of armed robbery suspect

New Orleans police are asking for help identifying a man who robbed a Magnolia Discount gas station on Airline Highway at gunpoint Saturday morning.

Police said the man entered the gas station in the 9200 block of Airline Highway about 5:15 a.m. and demanded money. The cashier complied, and the man fled across Airline Highway and nearby railroad tracks with about $580, according to police.

The man is described as an African-American male about 6 feet tall and 190 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with black pants, possibly brown-colored gloves and a mask over his face. He was carrying a semi-automatic pistol, police said.

Armed robbery reported Friday in Jefferson

Jefferson Parish 911 headquarters reported an armed robbery Friday night in the 1500 block of West Chelsea Road in Harvey.

The incident happened just before 11 p.m., according to the report.

The two male victims were not injured.
