Kenner man arrested in theft of lawn gear
A resident called Kenner police to report seeing a man in a dark-colored vehicle picking up lawn equipment in the rear alleyway of the 1900 block of Idaho Avenue. The resident also provided the vehicle’s license plate number.
Responding officers discovered that a shed had been burglarized and lawn equipment stolen. They found that the license plate belonged to a 2007 Toyota Scion registered in Harvey but that the driver had been issued a traffic citation showing he lived in the 2100 block of 11th Street in Kenner.
Officers went to that address and found the vehicle and Michael Walker, 46, of 1018 Compromise St., in Kenner, with the stolen lawn equipment. Kenner police said they also were able to link Walker to an additional shed burglary and an attempted shed burglary July 23, also in the 1900 block of Idaho Avenue and also involving the theft of lawn equipment.
Walker was booked with one count of attempted simple burglary and two counts of simple burglary. He remains in custody; no bail has been set. He is a suspect in other shed burglaries, and additional charges may be filed.
Walker has prior felony convictions for nine counts of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, two counts of simple burglary and theft. In 2008, he received a five-year prison sentence; he was paroled in October 2013.
Anyone with information about Walker or these burglaries is asked to call Kenner Detective Mike Jackson at (504) 712-2283 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.

Suspects sought in kidnapping attempt
New Orleans police are searching for two suspects who allegedly tried to kidnap a woman Saturday morning in Faubourg Marigny.
NOPD spokesman Officer Garry Flot said the incident happened about 9 a.m. at Decatur Street and Franklin Avenue.
The 28-year-old woman told police she was approached by a black man in his 40s with short, salt-and-pepper hair. She said the man was about 5-foot-9 with a thin build and a gold top tooth.
Flot said the suspect grabbed the woman and forced her at gunpoint to a black SUV with tinted windows. There was a second man in the vehicle, according to Flot.
That man told the victim to get inside the vehicle, but she struggled and was able to escape. She suffered minor scratches.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
