A man and a woman were found dead Friday morning in a submerged vehicle near the Kenner boat launch in Lake Pontchartrain, according to police.

Responding to a call about the submerged vehicle, police arrived at about 9:30 a.m. and could only see the luggage rack on top, said Kenner Police Lt. Brian McGregor.

Once they had pulled the vehicle from the lake, police discovered the bodies of two people, McGregor said.

Police have not identified the man or woman, and they do not suspect foul play. Right now the deaths are being investigated as a “traffic fatality.”

Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich, the Jefferson Parish coroner, said the man and the woman found in the car appeared to be in their 70s. He said they had likely been in the water for less than 24 hours.
