Jermaine Martin, 18, was shot about 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and South Johnson Street, NOPD Officer Garry Flot said.
Martin was lying on the sidewalk nearby with a gunshot wound to the chest when emergency medical personnel and police reached the scene. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Coroner Jeffrey Rouse identified Martin on Monday.
Police detectives believe that Martin was shot at the intersection and then ran a short distance on South Johnson before he collapsed.

Man shot Monday in Central City
An unidentified man was shot in the head at the intersection of Constance and Philip streets in Central City about 6 p.m. Monday, police said.
The victim was taken to a hospital, and police had no further information on his condition.
