STUDENTS HEAR FROM CANCER EXPERT: Dr. Robert Emmons, medical director for the Ochsner blood cancers and stem cell transplant department, spoke with science students at John Curtis Christian High School in May. The visit was more than academic for the students, because two of their teachers, coach Michael Robertson and Ashley Rickner, were diagnosed with cancer in May 2013 and spent the majority of the 2013-14 school year in treatment. Emmons participated in the treatment of both teachers; he talked with the students about advances in stem cell treatment and the field of oncology.
