A North Carolina man died Thursday after falling from an escalator inside Harrah’s Casino, New Orleans police said.

James Darst, 33, of Charlotte, North Carolina, arrived at the casino with several coworkers around 2:30 a.m., the New Orleans Police Department said in a news release. At around 3:30 a.m., Darst went into the Masquerade Club, walked behind a curtain and crossed a barricade before walking up an escalator to the second floor. The man then attempted to slide down the escalator handrail and fell to the first floor, police said.

Darst was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators do not believe foul play is involved.
