The Louisiana SPCA is urging New Orleans residents to report if they see animals without shelter from the cold by calling (504) 368-5191, ext. 100. All such calls will be given high priority. The group can only respond to calls within city limits.

The SPCA reminds pet owner that all cats, dogs and companion animals must be kept indoors or in a sheltered area when temperatures reach freezing levels, unless they are being walked on a leash. Animals are susceptible to hypothermia and frostbite, especially on the tips of their ears. Freezing temperatures can also be fatal. The SPCA’s regular adoption desk and community clinic are closed until the winter storm passes.
