A section of the facade of Gallier Hall fell Tuesday morning, crashing onto the steps below and damaging them.

Police have barricaded the area around the building’s front.

Gallier Hall is an antebellum building on St. Charles Avenue, built between 1845 and 1853.

The building served as New Orleans’ City Hall for more than a century and is now the setting for receptions, conferences, wedding and other events.
