A man police suspect of trying to burglarize a shed in the 1800 block of Terpsichore Street in Central City on Tuesday was shot by a homeowner after a struggle.

Police said a homeowner heard noises and went outside his house to see Kelly Jackson, 48, carrying items away from the shed in his alley around 11:30 a.m. The homeowner confronted him at gunpoint and tried to keep him at the scene until authorities arrived, police said, at which point a struggle broke out.

The homeowner, 68, shot Jackson in the stomach, arm and leg. He called for police, while the suspect ran to the corner of Simon Bolivar Avenue and Felicity Street and then collapsed.

Jackson was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police intend to book him on one count of simple burglary when he is released, they said, and are investigating whether he is behind other burglaries nearby. The homeowner has been cooperative, they said.
