The NOPD is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a man wanted for business burglary, trespassing and battery on a police officer. The incident took place Sunday at the Second Vine wine store at 1027 Touro St.

An officer investigating a call about a possible burglary at 5:30 a.m. said he learned that the robber might be in a backyard in the 2000 block of St. Claude Avenue. The man he found there initially complied with the officer’s commands but then struck the officer and fled on foot on Touro Street toward Marais Street. Police said the man was later identified as the person who broke into the wine store and stole cash.

He was described as a black man about 5-foot-7 and in his early to mid-20s. He was wearing a black T-shirt with a white design and dark-colored blue jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call 8th District detectives at (504) 658-6080 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
