New Orleans police said a man was fatally shot in the 7500 block of Kingsport Boulevard in New Orleans East on Tuesday evening.

Neighbors peered at the scene through front-door security screens as police entered and exited a small one-story house in Little Woods where the shooting occurred about 5 p.m.

Melvin Odom also watched the scene. He said the victim was his 27-year-old stepson, Christopher Smith.

"He's a good kid, man. He was a churchgoing man," Odom said. "I don't know who would do something like that ... That's dirty."

Odom said Smith lived alone in the house and had no children.

Police said they had no information on a suspect but they were searching for a dark gray 2009 Honda Accord bearing Louisiana license plate WRZ109, which was reported missing from the scene.
