NEW ORLEANS — The city is looking for people to serve on 15 location-based community advisory teams that will work with the New Orleans Recreation Department Commission’s Neighborhood Participation Process.

The NORDC NPP, approved in January, is a framework for public participation in the agency.

There will be three community advisory teams in each City Council district. The teams will meet to discuss and make recommendations on recreation-related topics.

“Our goal is to produce a more citizen-driven NORDC, and the community advisory teams that will be activated across New Orleans will help us do just that,” Mayor Mitch Landrieu said in a prepared statement. “Listening to the concerns and needs of our residents helps us make better decisions about our recreation facilities and programs and brings us closer to our goal of being the best recreation department in the country.”

Eligibility for community advisory teams begins at age 8. Applications can be picked up at any NORDC recreation center, NORDC headquarters, 800 Race St.; at the mayor’s Neighborhood Engagement Office, room 8E05 in City Hall; or can be found online at, or at one of the active NORDC recreation centers.

The deadline to complete an application is July 15.

After selecting participants, the Neighborhood Engagement Office and NORDC will organize orientation and training for community advisory team members with the goal of launching each team by fall.
