Authorities are looking for Eddie Brown, 28, who escaped from New Orleans police custody Sunday morning.

Police said he escaped about 3:50 a.m. after he was transported back to Central Lock-Up from Interim LSU Hospital, where he received a cast on his right arm. He maneuvered his way out of his handcuffs and escaped through an open gate, police said.

Brown gave the false name of Darrel Williams but was later identified as Brown.

A spokesman for the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office said Brown was still under police custody. He was not inside the sheriff’s temporary intake and processing center and had not been accepted for booking, spokesman Philip Stelly said.

Brown is described as a black male with a dark complexion, about 6 feet tall and 160 pounds. He has a low haircut with a goatee. He was wearing a gray T-shirt, blue jeans with holes in the legs and dark tennis shoes. He had a wooden brown rosary around his neck.

He was arrested on counts of flight from an officer, possession of heroin and crack, possession with intent to distribute and illegal carrying of a weapon.
