An Orleans Parish sheriff’s deputy and a 65-year-old woman were injured and hospitalized Wednesday morning after their vehicles collided in Gert Town, authorities said.
Deputy Jude Harris, 34, was brought to Interim LSU Hospital for injuries he suffered during the accident at Earhart Boulevard and Pine Street about 11:20 a.m., said Phil Stelly, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman. The driver of the SUV, a 65-year-old woman, also was hospitalized.
Neither person’s injuries were serious, said Officer Garry Flot, a New Orleans Police Department spokesman.
Harris, however, remained hospitalized Wednesday afternoon for additional tests and observation, Stelly said.
Flot said that Harris’ marked unit and the woman’s Mercedes-Benz SUV collided while Harris was headed west on Earhart and the woman was headed north on Pine.
The NOPD is in charge of the accident investigation.
