Man fatally shot on Crowder Boulevard

A man was fatally shot Sunday morning in the parking lot of an unoccupied mall in New Orleans East, police said.

Police responded to a report of a man down in the 5500 block of Crowder Boulevard about 10:50 a.m. When officers arrived, they found the man lying on the ground, shot multiple times in the body.

Unidentified man’s body found in canal

An unidentified man’s body was found in the Industrial Canal near the St. Claude Avenue Bridge on Saturday night, the New Orleans Police Department said.

Police responded to a report of a body in the water near the canal’s locks about 6:30 p.m. The body was later retrieved from the water. It showed no visible signs of of trauma.

Minutes later, the carcass of a dog also was taken out of the water, police said.

Two armed robberies reported Uptown

Two armed robberies took place in an Uptown New Orleans neighborhood within 10 minutes of each other early Sunday morning, according to New Orleans police.

In the first robbery, a woman was approached by an armed man with a limp about 4 a.m. at Hickory and Short streets. He hit the woman in the head, took her purse and left.

A few minutes later, two women were approached by an armed man in the 7300 block of Jeannette Street. According to the report, he hit one of the victims in the head, took her belongings and left.

Police did not say whether they believe the incidents were connected.

Two shootings reported in Jefferson Parish

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office reported two shootings Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

A man was shot in the 2300 block of Giuffrias Avenue in Metairie about 11 p.m. His injuries were not life-threatening.

A little over an hour later, another shooting was reported, according to Jefferson 911 headquarters.

A woman was shot in the 200 block of 4th Street in Bridge City. Her wounds also were not life-threatening.

Hotel robbed in New Orleans East

A 39-year-old woman working at the Clarion Inn in New Orleans East was robbed at gunpoint early Sunday morning, police said.

A man entered the business, in the 10100 block of the South I-10 Service Road, about 3:30 a.m. and demanded money. He fled after the woman complied.

Woman awakened by man in her house

A 50-year-old woman was awakened Saturday night by a man who had invaded her house in Central City, New Orleans police said.

The man entered the house in the 2400 block of Baronne Street about 11:30 p.m. and demanded money. Police said he struck her and grabbed her by the throat when she told him she didn’t have any.

The man fled when another person came into the room.

Two cuttings reported in Orleans Parish

Two cuttings were reported Saturday and Sunday in New Orleans.

Just before 11 a.m. Saturday, a 32-year-old man was approached by two strangers at France and North Villere streets in the Upper 9th Ward. One of the strangers pulled out a weapon and cut the man.

Later, a 35-year-old woman was arrested following an incident in the 1600 block of Treasure Street, police said.

The woman was in a verbal altercation with a 36-year-old man about 2:30 a.m. Sunday when the dispute turned physical. Police said the woman broke a beer bottle and cut the man several times.

The man refused EMS treatment and went to a hospital via private conveyance. The woman was later apprehended at another location.
