Update, 1:15 p.m. Thursday: Ahmad Rainey surrendered to authorities Thursday morning, the New Orleans Police Department said. Rainey will be booked on two counts of first-degree murder.
A New Orleans woman has been arrested and her boyfriend is being sought in connection with a double slaying at a New Orleans East apartment complex.
The New Orleans Police Department announced Wednesday that it had booked Gilda Woodridge, 27, on a count of assisting her boyfriend, Ahmad Rainey, 33, in orchestrating the murders of Daniel Millon and Vernon Lewis, both 24, about 7 p.m. Monday.
The two men were shot to death at the Hidden Lake Apartments, in the 7000 block of Martin Drive. Both were shot multiple times, and their bodies were found lying beside motorcycles near a stairwell.
A person with knowledge of the investigation said detectives were looking at whether the killings stemmed from a disagreement about a parking space.
Woodridge turned herself in to police Wednesday afternoon and was booked on a count of being a principal to first-degree murder, according to police. She has refused to cooperate with investigators.
Rainey is still at large. Police said they intend to book him on two counts of first-degree murder.
Police released few details about their investigation other than to say they had connected Rainey and Woodridge to the killings through “witness participation.”
Woodridge pleaded guilty to simple battery and aggravated assault in 2012, according to online Orleans Parish court records.
Rainey was accused of domestic abuse battery in 2011, but the District Attorney’s Office refused the charges.
