Saturday service learning projects at Carver Prep and Carver Collegiate help students at the open-enrollment New Orleans charter high schools build their college résumés while learning that community service and volunteering are just as important as their academic achievements.

They recently planted flowers and a new garden at Carver Prep to expand the Essential Skills Therapeutic Garden.

This garden and service project directly introduces students to the basic principles and practices of gardening and, in particular, the therapeutic benefits of gardening for special-needs students.
