Update 1:37 p.m.: Authorities have reopened the northbound lanes of La. 23.

The northbound lanes of the Belle Chasse bridge are closed due to a fatal crash that happened about 8 a.m. Friday.

At least one person was killed in the two-car crash and another was taken to the hospital, said Melissa Matey, Louisiana State Police spokeswoman. Initial reports indicated two people had died, but Matey said only fatality occurred.

Traffic on La. 23 from Belle Chasse is being diverted to Woodland Highway and through Algiers, according to reports from our partners at WWL-TV.
