Ormond Community Park to reopen Tuesday

St. Charles Parish will celebrate the reopening of Ormond Community Park at 11 a.m. Tuesday at 1901 Ormond Blvd., Destrehan.

St. Stephen to hold festival on Canal Street

Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church and various community partners will hold a free outdoor missions festival from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday on Canal Street between Elk Place and Villere Street.

Besides food, live music and other normal festival attractions, Life Fest will bring leaders, politicians, actors, pastors and businesses together to stand against the issues that plague the city and to provide positive alternative solutions.

Resource vendors, sponsorship opportunities and volunteer opportunities are still available for businesses and individuals who want to support this endeavor.

LSU offers free dental check-ups for kids

The LSU Health Sciences Center School of Dentistry’s Pediatric Dentistry Department will be conducting free check-ups for children during July at 1100 Florida Ave.

Children will be screened on a first-come, first-served basis.

St. Charles Parish to hold celebration

St. Charles Parish will hold its 24th annual Independence Day celebration from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 3 at the West Bank Bridge Park, 13825 River Road.

The event will feature a performance by the New Orleans band Category 6, two patriotic balloon-twisting clowns, mini golf for the kids, food and more , with a 20-minute fireworks show at 9 p.m. A flag-raising ceremony and the national anthem will begin at 6 p.m.

Interstate 310 southbound and northbound off-ramps to River Road will be closed 15 minutes prior to the fireworks, and River Road will be closed from Ashton Plantation Boulevard to the School Board office.

Pets and glass bottles are not allowed within the West Bank Bridge Park; however, guests are allowed to bring their own adult beverages to the event. Ice chests and folding chairs are welcome.

The state fire marshal has ordered that no one will be allowed to enter or leave the park for up to 30 minutes before and after the fireworks show.
