River Ridge homicide victim identified

Harvey — A 29-year-old man who died after being shot multiple times Sunday in River Ridge was identified by the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office on Monday.

Sulaiman Muhammad died at a local hospital after being shot about 11:45 a.m. near Providence Lane and Corwin Drive. Deputies found Muhammad after responding to a report of a man shot in the area. No last known address was listed for the man, who authorities said might have been homeless. Investigators found spent shell casings near his body.

Gretna bank held up; robber’s ID sought

Gretna — An unidentified man robbed a Gretna bank Monday morning, and Gretna police are looking for the public’s help in finding him.

Police said the robbery happened about 10:15 a.m. at a Capital One Bank in the Westside Shopping Center in Gretna. Deputy Chief Anthony Christiana said the man gave a teller a note demanding money before fleeing on foot. The robbery sparked a quick police reaction from Gretna and Department of Public Safety officers who swarmed the area beneath the West Bank Expressway and the shopping center parking lot. Christiana described the suspect as being about 6 feet, 2 inches to 6 feet, 3 inches tall, overweight with a gold frame sunglasses, long-sleeved black shirt, black hat and dark blue jeans.

Man shot early Monday in Metairie

Metairie — The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated the shooting of an unidentified man in Metairie overnight Monday.

Authorities reported that the man was wounded in the 300 block of North Laurel Street in Metairie at 1:27 a.m. Investigators said the man’s wounds were non-life threatening, but no other details were released.

3 stabbings reported over weekend

New Orleans — Police investigated three separate stabbings in New Orleans this weekend, but it doesn’t appear any of them were related.

Two of the incidents were reported Sunday evening, and the third was reported on Friday. The most recent incident happened in the 3000 block of Iberville Street at 10:12 p.m. Police said a 28-year-old woman was stabbed in the hand by her boyfriend after a fight.

Earlier that evening, police arrested Robert Heidel, 55, after they said he stabbed a 36-year-old man in the neck and back with a box cutter in the 800 block of St. Louis Street. Finally on Friday, police said a 25-year-old man was stabbed in the hand in the 10000 block of Roger Drive by an unknown man.

Police: Man drunkin fatal accident

Gretna — A 29-year-old man accused of killing a motorcyclist while driving drunk tried to hide his intoxication during a breath test, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Mario Martinez, of Westwego, was booked vehicular homicide and several other charges after authorities say he struck and killed Lawrence Nasser, 52, with his pickup at Fourth Street and Ames Boulevard. Martinez is accused of turning into the motorcycle’s path and causing the crash.

However, when authorities tried to get Martinez to take a breath test, they say he pretended to blow into the machine to avoid testing over the legal limit. After several attempts at subterfuge, a deputy eventually had blood drawn for a test. However, even with partial results, investigators said Martinez’s blood alcohol content was already double the legal limit.

Suspects accused of brandishing weapons

Jefferson Parish — The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested three suspects this weekend after authorities say they pulled out guns during arguments and threatened to kill people.

Sandon Miller, 23; Raymond Coster, 25; and Willie Smith, 47, all were booked with aggravated assault after authorities say they brandished loaded weapons at separate victims.

Miller is accused of following a woman he met at a bar Sunday and then pointing a gun at her face after chambering a round, according to an arrest report. Coster is accused of getting a gun from his car and pointing it at a woman he argued with. Authorities say Smith fought his female neighbor and then got a weapon from his home and threatened to kill her. No one was injured in the incidents.

Suspect arrestedin machete attack

Metairie — A 45-year-old is accused of chasing one of his neighbors with a machete after the main complained about loud children at a Metairie apartment complex.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office booked Nelson Calix Bonvilla with aggravated assault after arresting him at his apartment in the 2200 block of Edenborn Avenue. Bonvilla is accused of chasing one his neighbors with a machete after the man complained to the apartment manager about several children who were making noise.

Police: Man feigns disability in theft

Metairie — A New Orleans man was arrested Friday after authorities said he tried to steal five bottles of vodka from a Metairie resident by pretending to be unable to walk.

Chris Anderson, 50, was booked with theft of goods under $500 and resisting arrest by flight by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Investigators said Anderson was pushed into the Wal-Mart in a wheelchair by another man. According to an arrest report, Anderson stuffed the vodka beneath his seat, and then had the other man push him out of the store.

When a deputy confronted the men, Anderson leapt from his chair and ran away. The deputy was able to capture him, and had to stun him during the process, the report said.
