Woman found in car is city’s latest homicide
A woman whose body was found inside a burned vehicle in Desire is the city’s latest homicide victim, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office said Tuesday.
An autopsy found Kimberly Bowman, 32, died from a gunshot wound, Coroner Jeffrey Rouse said.
Bowman’s body was found about 1:30 a.m. Oct. 20 inside a burned car in the 2700 block of Desire Parkway.
Police have not identified a suspect or motive in her death.
Marrero man, 76, accused of cockfighting
A 76-year-old Marrero man is accused of cockfighting and of mistreating 44 chickens.
Armando Alvarez was booked with one count of cockfighting, 44 counts of cruelty to animals and 40 counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.
Jefferson Parish Animal Control told deputies that the animals were inhumanely housed. Deputies said they found 44 caged birds standing in waste, including 40 roosters with scars and mutilation that indicated cockfighting.
Alvarez was arrested Oct. 21.
Cockfighting has been illegal in Louisiana since 2008. A 2013 ordinance makes it illegal to keep roosters in New Orleans.
Spa masseur booked on sexual battery count
A New Orleans masseur is accused of sexual battery on a woman during a session at the Ritz-Carlton spa, where massages cost from $145 to $275.
Thirty-year-old Charles J. Russo’s bail was set Monday at $75,000. He remains in the Orleans Parish jail.
Russo was arrested Sunday, five months after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Police warrants allege that a customer accused Russo of masturbating during a massage session on June 1, 2013. The woman said she told hotel staff and security, but they did not help her call the police.
Ritz-Carlton General Manager Jim Oliver said the hotel does not comment on pending litigation.
Police seek missing man from Algiers
Police are searching for an Algiers man reported missing from his home.
Steven Bruce, 51, was last seen about noon Sunday at his home in the 1600 block of Pace Boulevard.
Bruce has a medical condition and needs medication, police said.
Bruce is described as a black man, about 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a green and orange shirt and red and orange shorts.

Police seek woman on assault charge
New Orleans police are searching for a woman suspected of trying to stab her boyfriend during an argument.
Police allege Dana Harris, 25, went to her 49-year-old boyfriend’s home in the 3100 block of Orleans Avenue about 7 p.m. Oct. 14 and began to argue with him.
During the argument, police said, she pulled out a knife, slashed through the screen door and tried to stab the man. She then ran away.
Her boyfriend was not hurt, police said.
Police have issued a warrant for Harris on counts of aggravated assault and simple criminal damage.

N.O. police investigate two armed robberies
New Orleans police on Tuesday were investigating the following armed robberies reported on an overnight crime log:
1:08 p.m. Monday at North Galvez Street and St. Bernard Avenue: The victim was riding his bicycle when an unknown man walked up, pointed a gun at him and demanded money. The robber ran away with the victim’s cash.
8:03 p.m. Monday in the 9200 block of Airline Highway: Two men armed with guns walked into a business and demanded money. The clerk complied, and the men fled with money and merchandise.
Man sought in stabbing of woman in parking lot
New Orleans police are searching for a man wanted in connection with an attempted murder Monday in Algiers.
Police allege Jose Lagos, 39, stabbed his girlfriend with a knife during an argument.
The incident happened about 9:10 a.m. in the 3700 block of MacArthur Boulevard.
The victim told police a Good Samaritan helped her after witnessing the stabbing in the parking lot of a business.
Lagos drove away in a Nissan Sentra. The victim was treated at a hospital.
Detectives believe Lagos lives in Kenner. He is wanted on a count of attempted second-degree murder and a count of simple battery, police said.

Gunfire wounds man in Treme late Monday
A man was shot multiple times late Monday in Treme, police said.
The 29-year-old victim was shot about 9:45 p.m. in the 1800 block of Conti Street.
Police did not provide information on his condition.
Woman: Man secretly filmed sex scenes
Orleans Parish prosecutors have filed video voyeurism charges against a man accused of filming sex with a woman without her knowledge.
On at least one occasion, Byron M. Whiddon, 34, allegedly lied to the woman about whether she was being filmed.
During one encounter, in late August, the woman stopped having sex with the man when she noticed a camera on the shelf facing her and asked whether it was filming, according to an arrest warrant.
About a week later, Whiddon left his external hard drive at the victim’s home and she discovered 11 videos — all taken without her permission — of the two having consensual sex, the warrant says.
Whiddon pleaded not guilty to the charges last week.
Transgender person stabs man, police say
A 66-year-old man said he was approached by a transgender person soliciting in the 700 block of Iberville Street a little before 5 a.m. Monday.
The man said he rejected the advances of the transgender person, who, he said, then tried to pick his pocket.
An altercation ensued, and the victim suffered a stab wound, police said.
The perpetrator fled, and the victim was taken to the hospital.
