Students in Mary Rooney’s second-grade class at Young Audiences Charter School recently worked with teaching artist Valorie Polmer on a design-thinking and problem-solving project.

They took on the challenge of designing a structure or system to protect the habitat of an endangered species. Teams collaborated on ideas, which they presented to the class for feedback.

They then created prototypes and gave a final presentation.
