A New Orleans police commander shot by an unknown assailant on Sunday night is recuperating well in the hospital, NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison said Thursday, but the search for whoever shot him continues.

Harrison said he has visited Cmdr. Derek Frick twice in the hospital and that the 24-year veteran is doing well. “I know for a fact he wants to return real soon,” Harrison said.

The NOPD believes that whoever shot Frick in the neck just before 8 p.m. in the Desire neighborhood was in a brown or gold-colored SUV. Frick was in an unmarked police SUV, and it is not clear whether his attacker knew he was a police officer.

Crimestoppers has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the unknown attacker or attackers. Tips can be submitted at (504) 822-1111.
