Police believe the killing of a 40-year-old man in the Lower 9th Ward on Tuesday night was related to drugs — and they have a witness.
The unidentified victim was shot in the head at the intersection of Alabo and Marais streets around 6:15 p.m. After police were called to the scene, emergency medical services took the victim to a hospital, where he died.
“We believe it’s narcotics-related,” NOPD Criminal Investigations Division Commander Doug Eckert said at a COMSTAT meeting on Wednesday. “We have a good witness. He was in the vehicle with the victim.”
Police also said they recovered a pistol from the scene of the crime.
Homicide Detective Andrew Waldron is investigating the case. He can be reached at (504) 658-5300.
