New Orleans police are searching for a teenager who allegedly pretended to be a member of the force and stole $4,000 in the process.

NOPD spokesman Garry Flot said that 19-year-old Aizzaldeen Abauli drove up behind an unsuspecting motorist and turned on a set of red and blue flashing lights in his black Pontiac Grand Prix.

The victim pulled into the parking lot of the filling station at 2411 Elysian Fields Avenue, where Abauli approached the passenger side door and claimed he was a police officer, ordering the victim to empty his pockets.

Abauli then drove off with the victim’s wallet, which contained a whopping $4,000, police said. Police have obtained a warrant for Abauli’s arrest on counts of impersonating a police officer and simple robbery.

Fifth District Detective Robert Hurst is leading the investigation and can be reached at (504) 658-6050.
