Boys Hope Girls Hope of Greater New Orleans will honor the schools that have joined in helping its youth in need during its Taking Flight gala from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Messina’s at Lakefront Airport in New Orleans.

The schools that have provided academic opportunities and scholarships include Jesuit High, St. Mary’s Dominican High, Archbishop Rummel High, Stuart Hall School for Boys, Holy Name of Jesus, Brother Martin High, Good Shepherd, St. Francis Xavier, Lusher Charter, De La Salle High, St. Augustine High and St. Anthony of Padua.

For 35 years, Boys Hope Girls Hope has provided New Orleans youth in need with a safe home, long-term care and academic opportunities.

Taking Flight, chaired by Mary Beth Bourgeois and Lisa Comeaux, will feature New Orleans cuisine, live music by The Wiseguys, a live auction and a raffle.

BHGH operates two homes in Mid-City that serve 16 young men and women from their entry into the program through high school graduation.

BHGH provides all the support, resources and guidance a child needs to succeed at no cost to families and has had outstanding results: Nationally, BHGH holds a 100 percent high school graduation rate and a college retention rate of 89 percent to 94 percent, compared with the national average of 66 percent.
