Man gunned down late Friday in N.O. East
Police responding to a call of a shooting about 11 p.m. Friday found a man shot to death on a sidewalk in the 7100 block of Bunker Hill in New Orleans East.
The unidentified victim was shot multiple times and died on the scene, said Officer Hilal Williams, a Police Department spokeswoman. Police did not immediately identify a suspect or motive.

Second man drowns in Plaquemines Parish
A 21-year-old man was found floating in a pool early Saturday following a Fourth of July party in Belle Chasse, the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
It was the parish’s second apparent accidental drowning in less than a week.
Deputies were called about 1:15 a.m. Saturday to a home in the 200 block of Burmaster Street after Shawn Meladine was found in the pool by partygoers.
Several people who gathered for the party went swimming a little after midnight. They said they did not see anyone left in the pool when they got out, said Commander Eric Becnel, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
A short time later, someone noticed Meladine floating in the pool. He was pulled from the water, and CPR was begun on him.
Paramedics rushed him to a West Bank hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He had no signs of trauma to his body.
On Wednesday, the body of Edward Cortez, 57, also of Belle Chasse, was pulled from the Hero Canal. He had been reported missing after a day of boating.
Results of Cortez’s autopsy, conducted Saturday morning, are pending the results of toxicology testing.
Police search for man in Canal Street attack
An unknown man pulled someone into the bathroom of a Canal Street business, beat him in the face, then stole his chain and money, police said.
The beating and robbery happened about 12:10 a.m. Friday in the 400 block of Canal Street.
The unknown assailant took $1,000 from the victim and a gold chain with a nameplate that reads “DONJAE.”
The assailant is described as a black man, 20 to 30 years old, 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds. He has short black hair and a goatee and wore a pink T-shirt, khaki shorts and black shoes.

Man could have details about home invasion
New Orleans police are looking for a man they believe might have information about a recent home invasion in New Orleans East.
Eric Youngblood, 26, is not a suspect in the incident that happened about 9:10 p.m. June 28 in the 7100 block of Restgate Road.
During the home invasion, the homeowner was shot by one of the intruders. The homeowner also was able to get off a shot and hit one of the intruders.

Dispute at Slidell gas station ends in gunfire
An argument between two groups of people Saturday morning at a Slidell gas station ended with one person shot, police said.
The shooting happened at a service station on Fremaux Avenue, said Detective Daniel Seuzeneau, a Police Department spokesman.
Details about the incident were not immediately available but the person who was shot was expected to survive, Seuzeneau said.
“Our detectives have been working on this case since early this morning,” Police Chief Randy Smith said in a prepared statement. “We’re confident that the person or persons involved have been identified and will be quickly apprehended.”
