Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016. Schulte was New Orleans Archbishop from 1989-2002, followed by Hughes till 2009, and currently held by Archbishop Gregory Aymond. Schulte was born on Dec. 23, 1926 and passed on January 17 in his native Philadelphia. Archbishops are among the few to actually be buried inside the cathedral.
