Drivers hoping to use Interstate 610 in New Orleans this weekend may have to seek alternate routes, as each direction of the highway will close for a portion of the weekend.
While bridge joint repairs are completed, westbound I-610 is scheduled to be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday, while the eastbound lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said.
Officials encouraged motorists to use Interstate 10 through downtown New Orleans as an alternate route and to watch out for construction workers and equipment.
Any planned construction activities may be rescheduled in the event of wet weather or other events.
The shutdown marks at least the third time that I-610 has been shut down this year for work related to the $19.5 million replacement of the Wisner Boulevard overpass.
