  • GRACIAS LATINOS: A street party to honor Latino immigrants who helped rebuild New Orleans and those from Latin American countries who reside here will be held from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at Casa Borrega, 1719 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. The celebration includes musical performances by Javier Gutierrez and Vivaz, and the Alexis “Papo” Guevara Afro Cuban Trio. The Afro Cuban Trio will play from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Vivaz from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Both bands perform from the Latin American songbook with different genres ranging from Rumba Flamenca to Cuban Son to salsa and merengue to traditional folk music.   • EMOTIONAL WELLNESS WORKSHOPS: The Louisiana Psychological Association will hold Hurricane Katrina 10th anniversary wellness workshops from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, and again on Saturday, Aug. 29.   • BACK-TO-SCHOOL HEALTH DAY: Members of local Lions clubs will hold a Back-to-School Health Awareness day from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, in the center court at Lakeside Shopping Center, 3301 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Free vision screening will be available for children along with tips on juvenile diabetes, hearing awareness and reading initiatives. Children often think that the fuzzy images they see are normal and don’t complain. More than 26,000 Louisiana children were screened through the Lions’ Kid Sight program last year.
  • GLASS-MAKING CLASS: Young Aspirations/Young Artists will hold beginning glass-making classes between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday or Thursday evenings, beginning Sept. 1, at 3322 LaSalle St., New Orleans. The beginning classes will provide students with no glassblowing experience with fundamental glass-making skills that can be applied to individual creative interests, both functional and sculptural.
