A fundraiser to benefit the local Wounded Warriors organization will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday at the Jefferson Orleans North, 2600 Edenborn Ave., in Metairie.
The event is hosted by the USA Dance LA Gumbo Chapter 5031 in Metairie and American Legion Post 377 in Kenner.
Tickets are $20 per person and will include food, a cash bar and music by the American Legion Post 175 Band and Jerry Embree Swing Band.

Pet blessing in Metairie
Good Shepherd United Church of Christ will sponsor a special blessing of animals at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 4 in the parking lot of the church, 5122 W. Esplanade Ave., in Metairie.
Church officials request that all dogs be on a leash.
Refreshments will be served to owners and their pets.
The event is free. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held inside.

The Kenner Police Department will hold a women’s self-defense course from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Oct. 2.
The course, which is free, teaches women ages 13 and older self-defense techniques and how to execute them properly if they are ever confronted by an attacker.
The course is taught by certified police officers who conduct group discussions and demonstrations on topics such as the types of sexual assaults; lawful means of self-defense; abduction; and risk awareness, recognition, reduction and avoidance.
Participants will have the opportunity to practice self-defense techniques with a certified instructor. To sign up, participants must agree to be present all three days of class.

The John McDonogh High School Class of 1962 will celebrate its 52nd class reunion from noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 25 at the Magnolia Plantation, 818 Elmwood Park Blvd., Harahan.
The cost is $75 per person and will include food and an open bar for the entire four hours. There will be background music and a dance floor for those who wish to dance.
