UPDATE 10:15 a.m. Sept. 8: The man who died in a shooting at Jack's Motel Friday has been identified as Cornelius Bentley III, 28.

Orleans Parish Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Rouse determined that Bentley died of a gunshot wound.

Just after 6 p.m. on Friday, a man, 54, driving a green Chevrolet Blazer hit a male motorcyclist, 38 at the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Werner Drive.

The Blazer overturned; the cyclist hit the back of the SUV and was thrown from his motorcycle.

Both were taken to a hospital. The Blazer’s driver sustained minor injuries; the cyclist died.

Blood-alcohol tests were administered as part of the ongoing investigation.

And a few minutes before midnight on Friday, police officers arrived at Jack’s Motel at 7700 Chef Menteur Hwy. and found a gunshot victim lying in a pool of blood.

The man, 28, was pronounced dead on the scene.
