A woman whose decomposing body was found last week in an overgrown lot in the Lower 9th Ward has been identified as 34-year-old Brandy Keenan.
A tip led police to Keenan’s body near the corner of Choctaw Street and Florida Avenue last Friday about 8:30 a.m.
Keenan’s death has been classified a homicide, but a cause is not yet being released because of the ongoing investigation, said John Gagliano, the Orleans Parish coroner’s chief investigator.
Keenan appeared to have been dead for two or three days and her body had begun to decompose by the time she was discovered, authorities have said. She carried no identification. Investigators used fingerprints and tattoos to identify her, Gagliano said.
Keenan lived in New Orleans but was originally from Franklinton, Gagliano said.
Police have not identified a suspect or motive in her killing.
