NFL Hall of Famer Rickey Jackson and former Saints wide receiver Torrance Small will lead “Get-up and Move Fitness” during a Family Health and Sports Festival that will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 28 at Dillard University, 2601 Gentilly Blvd., New Orleans. Admission is free and open to the public.

The festival will include healthy cooking demonstrations, financial fitness workshops and health care resources, including blood pressure screenings, diabetes tests, eye exams, rapid HIV tests and dental screenings.

Athletics are another key component of the fest. Students of all ages can participate in a volleyball clinic sponsored by the Mid-City Volleyball Association and a series of AAU and community basketball games that begin at 11 a.m. in Dent Hall Gymnasium. The AARP Walk for Fitness will begin at 10 a.m. at Kabacoff Plaza on Dillard’s campus.

Free exhibit space is available for vendors. More than 40 health care exhibitors will be in attendance.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation, Dillard University’s School of Nursing, Daughters of Charity, Tulane Medical Center, Tulane School of Medicine, EXCELth Inc., LSU School of Dentistry and IberiaBank are among the festival’s sponsors.

The Pontchartrain Park Housing Fair has been rescheduled from May 31 due to inclement weather and will be a part of the day’s activities. Lenders are offering as much as $80,000 in grants to assist first-time homebuyers in purchasing homes in the Pontchartrain Park area.
