The Antique Auto Club of St. Bernard’s July Cruise Night will have a special 1970s theme, complete with disco music and costumes.

The event, set from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 19, will take place in the parking lot at Brewster’s Restaurant, 8751 W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette. Participants are encouraged to come dressed in their best ’70s attire.

A car of the month will be named, and food will be available in Brewster’s. There also will be prizes and a 50/50 raffle.

The club holds a Cruise Night on the third Saturday of every month in the parking lot at Brewster’s. The event is open to the public and there is no cost to participate.

Membership in the club is open to owners of classic and antique cars, as well as those who have an interest in them.

Emergency siren testing

As part of the ongoing testing of St. Bernard Parish’s readiness capabilities, the parish’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness will test its emergency siren system at approximately 1 p.m. Thursday, July 17. The test will last about three minutes.

Chalmette Battlefield

Join local historian and living-history re-enactor Tim Strain to explore what everyday life was like in the city 200 years ago, as the Battle of New Orleans University presents “New Orleans: 1815” from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at Chalmette Battlefield, 8606 W. St. Bernard Highway in Chalmette.

Stay after for an 1815-era cannon drill or talk with the ladies of the Battle of New Orleans sewing circle about how War of 1812 politics influenced fashion.

CHS/AJ Class of ’79 reunion

The Chalmette High and Andrew Jackson high school classes of 1979 will hold their 35-year reunion from 8 p.m. to midnight Sept. 27 at the Frederick J. Sigur Civic Center grand ballroom, 8245 W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette.

Adult aqua fitness classes

Adults 18 and older are invited to take part in weekly aqua fitness classes held at the Chalmette High School Ninth Grade Academy Natatorium, 1101 E. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette. Classes are offered at 7 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and at 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, excluding school holidays.

Nunez registration

Nunez Community College will hold early registration for the fall semester July 30 through Aug. 1.

Students may register online at www.nunez.edu, and on campus from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 30 and 31 and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 1 on the first floor of the Arts, Sciences, and Technology Building.

Students seeking financial aid must complete and submit a 2014-15 federal application for Student Financial Aid Form online at www.fafsa.ed.gov using the Nunez school code 015130.
