Jefferson Parish Sherriff's Office deputies were investigating a shooting that occurred outside an apratment in Metairie's Bucktown Section Tuesday night.

The incident left a 25-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest, authorities said.

The unidentified man was taken to University Medical Center for treatment and was listed in critical condition.

Seven evidence cones, typically used to mark shell casings, were placed near a pool of blood outside the front door stoop of the apartment.

A woman who identified herself as the building's landlord, but declined to give her name, said a woman lived in the unit, outside of which the shooting apparently occurred. That resident did not appear to be on the scene on Tuesday night.

"I've owned this building for 14 years, and never had something like this happen," the landlord said.

The shooting occurred before 6:30 p.m. in the 200 block of West Esplanade Avenue, according to the Sherriff's office.

The Sherriff's office said it had not yet established a motive in the shooting, nor had identified any suspects. Deputies ask anyone with information to call investigators at 504-364-5300 or CRIMESTOPPERS.
